Gross income is generally used to determine financial eligibility. When there is an erratic or seasonal employment history, care must be used in arriving at a projected income figure. In instances of self-employment (e.g. families who farm), adjusted gross income should be used to determine financial eligibility.
Financial eligibility for Special Health Services (SHS) begins at 185% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). This level changes annually each May. To determine where your family unit falls, please see the Eligibility Level Chart.
