How to Become a Foster Care Provider
If you would like to become a foster care provider in North Dakota call 1 (833) FST-HOME (1 (833) 378-4663) or complete this form.
Purpose
Foster care is 24-hour out-of-home care for children whose parents are unable to provide for their children's needs. It includes food, clothing, shelter, security, safety, guidance and comfort.
In nearly all cases, a child in care has been removed from their home by court order, with custody given to a public agency, such as the Division of Juvenile Services, a human service zone or a Tribal Nation in North Dakota.
N.D. provider homes and facilities maintain a standard of safety and well-being of children in care.
Levels of Licensure
North Dakota offers different types of foster care provider licensure to ensure families have options that meet their needs and the level of care that they would like to provide.
- Licensed - Full (Care for unrelated children and length of stay is dependent on the case plan)
- Licensed - Relative (Care for relative children and length of stay is dependent on the case plan)
- Certified Provider - (Care for unrelated children for no more than 30 days. Great for respite and shelter care short-term)
