The North Dakota Health and Human Services (HHS) Behavioral Health Division invites the public to its booth at the North Dakota State Fair in Minot, July 19-27, to learn about Parents Lead, an evidence-based prevention program that provides parents and other adults and caregivers with tools and resources to help support the behavioral health of children. As the number one influence, parents, caregivers, and other trusted adults play a critical role in supporting the behavioral health of children.

The booth is located in the Commercial II building and open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. CT.

“We truly enjoy connecting with parents and community members throughout the week” said Sara Kapp, Administrator at the Behavioral Health Division. "Parents can utilize the tools and resources to support their children's behavioral health through daily conversations and engagement in the midst of their busy lives.

Throughout the week, visitors can visit the Parents Lead booth to participate in interactive family-friendly activities and even capture your time together at the photo booth. The booth will also feature behavioral health resources to include: 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline and other related prevention, treatment and recovery-oriented programs.

“The State Fair is a great opportunity to celebrate our state together while promoting essential behavioral health resources. It's crucial to make these resources known and accessible, as they can significantly enhance the well-being of individuals and their families,” said Kapp.

Fair attendees can also receive free Narcan (naloxone), medication that temporarily reverses an opioid overdose, along with training on how to use it.

The Behavioral Health Division is responsible for reviewing and identifying service needs and activities in the state's behavioral health system to ensure health and safety, access to services and quality services. For more information, visit hhs.nd.gov/behavioral-health.

The Parents Lead website offers behavioral health promotion tools and resources not only for parents, but for community members and professionals who work with children, parents and families.
