Background:
The Developmental Disabilities and Aging Services Sections of North Dakota Health and Human Services are participating in the National Core Indicators-Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (NCI-IDD) and National Core Indicators-Aging and Disabilities (NCI-AD).
Several ND advocacy organizations advocated for the implementation of NCI, and the North Dakota State Council on Developmental Disabilities granted funding for the first two years of NCI survey cycles.
NCI is a collaborative effort used by states to assess the quality and outcomes of services. NCI offers valid, reliable, person-centered measures that states use to demonstrate how publicly funded supports are impacting people’s lives and to determine where states can improve the quality of the services. Indicators address key areas including service planning, rights, choices, decision making, heath, welfare, safety, services coordination, relationships, community inclusion, employment and goals.
States use both in-person and mail surveys to collect information on outcomes experienced by people receiving services. The information can be important to HHS, state policymakers, providers and advocates who may use the data to assess individual satisfaction, guide decisions, track performance over time, compare results across states, and improve system performance.
Agenda:
• Introduction and purpose of NCI
• Introduction to the project management organization: Knowledge Services
• Overview of the survey tools and process
• Implementation timelines
• Comments and feedback from the audience
