Your child’s special day is here. It’s the perfect time to plan for their annual ND Medicaid well-child check.

These preventive visits are free for most families. They make sure your child is healthy, growing well and on the right track to complete wellness.

You can also ask questions about your child's health, discuss concerns and even get them caught up on routine immunizations.

What to expect during a well-child check

  • Physical exam
  • Dental check
  • Vision and hearing tests
  • Growth and development checks
  • Behavioral health screenings
  • Immunizations
  • And more!

Your next step

It's simple. Call your trusted medical provider or your local public health unit to make an appointment. Even if you have missed a visit in the past, don’t worry! It's never too late to give the gift of wellness.

Visit the ND Medicaid Health Tracks webpage to learn more about well-child checks.

Health and safety tips

As a parent of a 7-year-old, you know they are more active and independent.

Here are a few ways to help keep them safe and healthy.

  • Teach your child how and when to dial 911.
  • Practice for emergencies, such as a fire and having a safe meeting spot.
  • Check your smoke alarm batteries.
  • Have your child ride in a car's backseat until they are 13 years old. It's the safest place.
  • Have properly fitted helmets and safety gear for activities.
  • Assign small chores to give them responsibility.
  • Take your child to the dentist two times per year.
  • Remind your child to brush their teeth two times a day.
  • Get plenty of sleep.
  • Schedule an eye exam with an eye doctor every year.
  • Limit screen time to two hours per day (not including schoolwork).
  • Encourage healthy eating.
