Career Description
At the North Dakota Department of Transportation, we owe our success to our people and processes. As a Transportation Engineer in the Research section at the North Dakota Department of Transportation, you'll play an important role in helping improve our materials management processes. We're looking for someone who enjoys solving problems, has great communication skills, and pays close attention to detail. Experience with the Construction Automated Records Systems (CARS) is a plus, as well as knowledge of engineering processes, construction administration, and AASHTO standards. In this role, your main duties will include:In this role, you will develop and maintain a Qualified Products List (QPL) and create the associated specifications needed to operate the QPL process. You will evaluate new products submitted to the NDDOT to ensure they meet the required standards. Additionally, you will assist in the development of a Materials Management System (MMS), writing specifications and procedures for its implementation. You will also support training efforts and develop manuals to ensure the proper use and maintenance of the MMS. Your work will play a key role in ensuring the quality and efficiency of materials management within the NDDOT.In this role, you will work with the NDDOT Research, Development, and Technology program to improve processes and enhance transportation systems. You will coordinate with other NDDOT Divisions and university partners to initiate new research projects focused on transportation improvements. Your work will involve conducting research and analyzing construction methods, materials, and technologies to find better solutions. You will evaluate internal research projects, report your findings, and help develop new research projects to address ongoing challenges in transportation. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineeringFour years of professional-level engineering work experienceSuccessful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as specified by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land SurveyorsRequires a class D driver's license for travel to meetings and project locations.Lifting up to 20 pounds or ability to carry several items with a total weight of 20 pounds.Products Engineer II / Transportation Engineer II:Bachelor's degree in engineeringTwo years of professional-level engineering work experienceMust have passed or have the ability to pass the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as specified by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors within six months of employment.Products Engineer I / Transportation Engineer I:Bachelor's degree in engineering and,Applicants graduating in December 2024 will be considered.Must have passed or have the ability to pass the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as specified by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors within six months of employment.Employment of the selected candidate will be contingent on satisfactorily completing the interview process and reference check.
