A provider can update their information when needed. It is a requirement to update the provider information at least annually.
Yes, ND Century Code 50-06-06.15. states, "A mental health program shall provide the information and documentation necessary to the department at least annually in the form and manner prescribed by the department."
For the purpose of this registry, a Mental Health Program is:
- An agency/organization that provides mental health services by a licensed mental health professional
- Individually licensed mental health professionals that operate as a sole proprietor(business)
A licensed mental health professional for purposes of this registry includes:
- Professional Counselors
- Marriage and Family Therapists
- Clinical Psychologists
- Psychiatrists
- Advanced Practice Registered Nurse-Mental Health
- Clinical Social Workers.
Please have the following information close by when registering:
- your organization NPI number
- agency contact email
- agency contact phone
- address and addresses of each location
- who you serve
- modalities of care
It is best if you use a general email or an inbox that will not likely change in the future. The account follows that email and if that person leaves the organization and request for changes will need to be submitted.
Below are some pointers for how to identify which NPI(s) to use to register your organization(s):
Organizational Structure |
How to register the organization(s) |
Single Organizational NPI used for one or more practice locations |
Submit a single Mental Health Program Registry submission for that NPI, including all locations that operate under that NPI |
More than 1 Organizational NPI used for a single practice location |
Select only 1 NPI to identify your organization and submit a single Mental Health Program Registry submission for that NPI, including all locations that operate under it. Do NOT submit registrations for multiple NPIs that are used at a single location. |
More than 1 Organizational NPI used for multiple different practice locations |
Submit a Mental Health Program Registry submission for each NPI, including all locations that operate under that NPI. Do NOT submit registrations for multiple NPIs that are used at a single location. |
Individual practitioner that operates as a sole proprietor (business) |
Submit a single Mental Health Program Registry submission using your individual NPI. Do NOT complete registrations for an individual practitioner, unless that individual operates as a sole proprietor (business) and uses their personal NPI to identify themselves as the program (billing entity). |
The goal is to have a searchable directory live to the public in the fall of 2022. The first phase is to have mental health programs register.
If your organization would like an opportunity to highlight that you are accepting new clients and what insurance, please utilize the space in “Describe the Program”. This section can be edited by the provider at any time and it is recommended that if you include this information you keep this up to date. This information will be visible to individuals using the directory.
Senate Bill 2161 created a new section to chapter 50-06 in North Dakota Century Code that the department shall establish and maintain a registry of mental health programs in the state. Moving forward we are open to receiving feedback in regards to adding additional/programs and services. Please reach out to programregistry@nd.gov to provide additional feedback.
