State Examiner Office/Forensic Pathology - Bismarck, ND - State Forensic ExaminerQualified candidates will be considered upon receipt of application. Hiring yearly Salary Range: $250,000-$300,000The North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services is seeking a forensic pathologist to fill the position of State Forensic Examiner in Bismarck, North Dakota. The State Forensic Examiner provides leadership and forensic pathology services to county coroners and to local, state and federal law enforcement officials in death investigation in North Dakota. Forensic pathology services in the state are shared, through a contractual arrangement, with the Department of Pathology at the University Of North Dakota (UND), whose facility is located in Grand Forks and who handle the 21 counties in the eastern portion of the state. The Bismarck Office handles approximately 200-250 autopsy cases per year from the western 32 counties. North Dakota has a low crime rate which in turn offers more opportunity to support the public health aspect of death investigations. Court appearances in both state and federal court are about 5 - 10 per year. About half of these are out-of-town appearances. The state forensic examiner staff includes a forensic office administrator, an autopsy technician, full-time autopsy assistant and three to four part-time autopsy assistants. This would include reviewing and drafting statewide legislation appropriate for death investigation and promoting the field of forensic pathology.Participate in administrative duties as assigned, such as serving on the North Dakota Child Fatality, Maternal Death and Domestic Violence Fatality Review Panels.Provide technical expertise and participate in mass fatality preparedness and response.Office staff rotate being on call. This position will be available for consultation with staff for occasional cases in which staff may need assistance in triaging for a forensic examination.To be considered for this position you are required to have a Certification from American Board of Pathology in anatomic pathology and certification or eligibility for certification in forensic pathology is required. Must be eligible for medical licensure in North Dakota.
