At Job Service North Dakota, the Senior Accountant manages key financial operations that ensure the agency runs smoothly and effectively, contributing to the success of workforce and unemployment services across the state. Join our team and be part of an organization that truly makes a difference in the lives of North Dakotans.Key Responsibilities:Budget Support: Develop, maintain, and analyze the agency's budget, including trend analysis and forecasting.Grant Reporting: Prepare the annual resource justification model and federal grant expenditure reports.Financial Reporting: Assist with the preparation of financial statement schedules and audits.Accounts Payable: Process accounts payable vouchers and purchasing card transactions.1099 Processing: Prepare and file annual vendor 1099 forms.Reconciliation: Complete daily and monthly cash and postage account reconciliations.Inventory Control: Maintain and track agency assets in the property inventory system.Procedural Reviews: Review and update financial policies and procedures annually.Records Management: Oversee the annual review and purge of financial records per retention schedule.
Minimum Qualifications
To be considered for this position, you must have a bachelor's degree with emphasis in accounting, statistics, economics, or business plus at least two (2) years of professional finance experience, or a combination of education, training, and experience which demonstrates equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail and analytical skills to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies in financial data. Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 programs and accounting software, particularly PeopleSoft, are preferred to handle financial data, generate reports, and streamline processes. The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of accounting principles, strong communication skills, the ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate effectively as a team player. Knowledge of public sector financial regulations and grant management experience is beneficial to this role.
